Among the country churches, together with that of the recently
renovated "Loret'Attesu" dating back to the second half of the 18th
century, a sanctuary of great importance is that of SS Cosimo e Damiano,
located on the plateau of "Lidana Marghine", 6 km from Mamoiada. Experts
belide it to be the most ancient in the entire Barbagia, dating bach to
the 7th century AD.
Inside the church is an exquisite niche in pink
trachyte of the 1600s and some frescoes in the Byzantine style, as well
as 14 panels of enamelled ceramics of fine workmanship representing the
stations of the Way of the Cross.
The panels were made by Jacinto Causada in the shop of
Alcora in Castellon de la Plana, Spain, in the second half of the 18th
century and were displayed for worldwide admiration of the Coliseum for
1998 Way of the Cross officiated by Pope John Paul II.

The symbol of
Mamoiada from the architectural poin of view is the church of N.S di
Loreto which is probably medieval in origin.
