Mamuthones Mamoiada

Traditional Dresses and Costumes

Traditional clothing reflects the class divisions (nobilis, cavalleris, vassallos and remitanos) which survived in the local community until the 1950s.

Local costumes in Mamoiada are no longer worn in everyday life but they are carefully preserved and worn during the most significant celebrations.
Particularly worthy of attention is the female costume, be it the "rich" one worn by aristocratic women, the "costume de dama", or the middle class one, the "costume de vassalla" or, even, the so-called "costume de viuda" worn by widows.
Of plain cut, the sober elegance of the female costume is due to the beautiful combination of coluors and the elaborate embroidered motifs on the silk band "su vrunimentu" adorning the skirt "su goresi".
