The Territory
Mamoiada itself lies 650 meters above sea level,
while its municipal
territory averages 736 meters.
Located north of the Gennargentu chain, Mamoiada's territory borders
with those of Fonni, Gavoi, Ollolai, Sarule, Orani, Nuoro and Orgosolo.
The town is 17 km from Nuoro-Lanusei-Arbatax (Ogliastra), a road that
recalls the ancient "Kalàris-Ùlbiam" that used to cut across villages of
central Sardinia such as Soràbile (between Fonni and Mamoiada).
From
"Trumùghine" to "Sas Baddes", from "Bisèni" to "Sa Radichina", from "Sa
Làcana" to "Su Dòvaru", Mamoiada's territory stretches over 4,903
hectares.
Some of the landscape is quite rugged with numerous ravines
and granite formations, whereas other parts, such as the area of "San
Cosimo", are rich in natural water springs, river, pastures and
cultivated fields ("Marghine" and the "Lidana" plateau).
The main
activities are hearding and a winery that yields products of excellent
quality.
